Session Description
Patricia Viseur Sellers is an international criminal lawyer. She is on the law faculty of the University of Oxford. She is the former Special Advisor for Slavery Crimes, and former Special Advisor for Gender to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. She was Legal Advisor for Gender and a prosecutor at the ad hoc International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and for Rwanda. She was on the trial teams of Oric, Nikolic, Akayesu, Kunarac and Furundzija that delivered seminal jurisprudence on sexual violence as war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. She has advised UN entities, such as UN Women, the Secretary General's Special Representative for Children in Armed Conflict, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as governments and civil society organizations on international criminal law issues. She testified, as an expert, before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and national courts in Belgium, France, Spain and Sweden on matters related to international crimes.
